Wilpattu

Wilpattu National Park is a world-renowned wildlife sanctuary located in the northwest of Sri Lanka. Unlike more open safari parks, Wilpattu is characterized by thick dry-zone forest interspersed with natural lakes, creating a unique and untouched wilderness atmosphere. The park is especially famous for its leopard population, making it one of the best places in Sri Lanka for leopard sightings. In addition, visitors may encounter elephants, sloth bears, deer, crocodiles, and a wide variety of bird species. The “villus” (natural rainwater lakes) attract wildlife, especially during dry months, offering excellent safari opportunities. Wilpattu provides a raw and peaceful safari experience, far less crowded than other parks, making it ideal for nature lovers and wildlife photographers seeking an authentic jungle adventure in Sri Lanka.
