Ohiya

Nestled at an elevation of over 1,700 metres above sea level, Ohiya is one of Sri Lanka's most scenic hill-country destinations. The village is famous for its peaceful atmosphere, mist-covered mountains, lush tea plantations, and spectacular views of the surrounding valleys. Ohiya serves as one of the main gateways to Horton Plains National Park, offering convenient access to attractions such as World's End, Baker's Falls, and the park's unique montane grasslands and cloud forests. The area is also known for the beautiful Devil's Staircase scenic route, Bambarakanda Falls—the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka—and numerous hiking trails through pristine natural landscapes. The charming Ohiya Railway Station, located along Sri Lanka's famous hill-country railway line, is considered one of the country's most picturesque train stops. Visitors can enjoy trekking, birdwatching, photography, and relaxing amidst the tranquil mountain scenery. The best time to visit is from January to April, when the skies are generally clear and ideal for outdoor exploration.
