Buttala
Buttala is located in the Monaragala District of Sri Lanka’s Uva Province. It is a historically significant and geographically important town situated near major wildlife and heritage zones. The area is surrounded by dry-zone forests, paddy fields and small hills, offering a mix of nature and cultural heritage. Buttala is especially known as a gateway to Yala National Park (Block 5) and the ancient Magul Maha Viharaya Buddhist temple. The region has strong links to ancient Sri Lankan history, including connections to the legendary King Dutugemunu. Today, Buttala is an important stop for safari travelers and cultural explorers.
